We got taxi to La Candleria but since it was Independence Day nothing was open. We found a coffee shop and ordered 2 double shot lattes but what came was 2 lattes and 2 double espressos. Andrew and I bounced down the street to the Emerald Museum. We had to show ID and clear multiple security checkpoints to get in. It was disappointing. After the museum we walked down the deserted streets and found some vendors selling used doodads where we bought Q a llama sweeter for 5000$ COP($2) but I didn't get a necklace at the Emerald Museum that I reallllllllly wanted.
We thought that Independence Day would be a big deal considering that just days earlier the Supreme Court had ratified a peace treaty with the the leftist rebel group called the FARC, which had raged for 50 years. Besides the deserted streets and closed central Plaza de Bolivar there was no sign of any normal day.
Walked to Museo nacional for cool exhibits saw Lorenzo Jaranillo.
Walked up the hill in the rain La Macarena to cool tapas bar above the bull fighting estadio.
Then walked home.
