interesting documentaries

i like to waste my time watching documentaries about interesting and strange aspects of the world and different cultures. they are similar to npr but longer and more in depth.

frontline is PBS' (public broadcasting service) version

frontline

one i recently found is al-jazeera english's witness series. george w bush called al-jazeera "the mouthpiece of Al-Qaeda." during peacecorps in morocco i watched alot of al-jazzera i remember being impressed by the quality and scope of the broadcast. of course many of the stories focused on muslim issues as that was typically their audience. once the images of the world trade centers being struck by planes and everyone stopped and watched me to see if the crazy american would fly off the hook and go nuts.

aljazeera witness

i particularly like this one about chinese shopowners and their expansion into africa and the tensions that arise

the colony

lastly i like ABC's (australian broadcast company) journeyman pictures series. they release new stories routinely and are well made.

journeyman pictures

i like this one about indias lunch box delivery service. sounds boring i know but just watch

bombays dabbawalla
